BEAR RINEHART: NEEDTOBREATHE’s New Music, New Normal

If you know rock and roll, you know NEEDTOBREATHE. Hailing from Possum Kingdom, SC, this trio of hard rocking musicians have been at it for two decades and counting, straddling Christian and mainstream charts with their own blend of Gospel, roots, and pop.

Show host, John Chisum, sat down recently with the band’s founder and front man, Bear Rinehart, not long after the birth of Bear’s third child, to talk about the backstories of their new album Out of Body and the new normal they’re in with the departure of Bear’s brother Bo from the group.

NEEDTOBREATHE has won 16 GMA Dove Awards, have been nominated for Grammys, and are a platinum-certified band with over 1M albums sold. They have a solid fan base and have toured with the likes of Tim McGraw & Faith Hill and Taylor Swift. Their 2013 rockumentary Prove the Poets Wrong is a must-see if you’re already a fan or just want to find out more about them.

In this powerful interview, Bear talked a lot about songwriting, demos and production, as well as more intimate subjects like his battle for mental health and how the band has had to come to terms with conflict after he and brother Bo came to a literal brawl after a show a few years back.

Song Revolution with John Chisum is sponsored by Nashville Christian Songwriters, a coaching and resource company dedicated to empowering Christian songwriters worldwide.
