You may not remember his name, but if you’ve watched American Idol through the years you might remember the guy with the amazing voice who suffers from Tourette Syndrome, singer songwriter Dave Pittman.
After hearing how Pittman was bullied for his uncontrollable movements and sounds to the point of an attempted suicide at only 10-years old, guest judge Neil Patrick Harris called him “crazy brave” and then passed him on through to Hollywood after hearing his crazy amazing voice.
Though Dave didn’t make it through to the finals on the show, the national exposure he received from his time on that stage opened up a new ministry of singing and sharing his courage to live powerfully despite his condition in schools, churches, and other venues.
Now a Nashville songwriter, Dave has collaborated with some amazing co-writers, producers, and musicians to release his new recording “Different Kind of Love” that includes seven powerful new songs to encourage listeners to live into the endless love of God in their hearts. Featuring power duo husband/wife vocalists Seth & Nirva, these songs display the crazy amazing voice that frees Dave, albeit momentarily, from the effects of Tourette Syndrome.
“It just goes away when I sing,” Dave remarks. “Some people have joked I should just song all the time!”
Becoming a songwriter was the last thing the 10-year old Pittman thought he would ever be. But these new songs and Dave’s ongoing speaking and singing is the evidence that God can use any condition in our lives for His glory and to encourage others around us.
