New Year, New Songwriting

Take action now to make sure that 2024 is your breakthrough songwriting year!

Have you ever heard that insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results? That’s the way a lot of Christian songwriters get frustrated and even quit–they just don’t have the insight and tools to approach their songwriting differently and it tanks over and over.

But it doesn’t have to be that way!

If you feel a special call to write for Jesus to share your testimony or lead people into worship, you can take action in this new year to gain key insights and skills to write the kinds of songs that engage listeners. Songwriting will always require time and effort, but if you have stronger skills, the time you put in will bear much more fruit.

Here are a few ways you can take action now to make sure that 2024 is your breakthrough songwriting year.

I’m amazed when songwriters tell me they don’t read much. How can you expect to write effectively if you’re not sharpening your word power? It’s no wonder people write the same song a thousand times. Theyt lack fresh words and thoughts and phrases that can only come from reading. If you’re not reading, you’re not growing.

There are many fine songwriting books from many sources such as Berklee School of Music for you to read to add skills. Along with the Bible, supplement your spiritual/devotional reading with classic texts like My Utmost for His Highest or Spurgeon sermons or a thousand other rich devotionals on the market or at your library. Writers are readers. Don’t deprive yourself of reading something enriching each day.

Youtube is a vast storehouse of songwriting tools. Do a quick search and dive in. You’ll be amazed at the insights you’ll find once you tap into this knowledge base. Then begin to practice with what you’ve learned. Work harder to incorporate pro level principles instead of expecting the world to love your songs just because you love Jesus. They won’t.

And if you are really ready to dig in, consider purchasing one of our two video series on Christian songwriting, The Songbuilders Blueprint or Your Best Songs Now available in the store area on this site. You can’t go wrong with either of them for a minimal investment to strengthen your knowledge and skills.
